A new format for bilateral cooperation<\/strong>
On her final official visit to the U.S: as Chancellor in July of 2021, Angela Merkel and President Joe Biden signed a joint declaration affirming “their commitment to close bilateral cooperation in promoting peace, security, and prosperity around the world.” The declaration also included a commitment to create a new bilateral forum to enable Germany and the U.S. to utilize their combined expertise and innovative power to help shape the global future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Defending democracy in a digital world<\/strong>
The first U.S. – German Futures forum took place on November 03-04, 2022 in M\u00fcnster, Germany. A diverse group of academics, technologists, experts from non-governmental and civil society organization, as well as members of the diplomatic corps were gathered to brainstorm policy proposals under the theme of “The Future of Democracy in a Digital World”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

HMKW Digital Journalism Master Students had the opportunity to observe and report on the proceedings. The texts, social media coverage, audio, and video content they produced is collected here.<\/font><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n

The first ever US-German Futures Forum was held in M\u00fcnster, Germany,\u00a0 from November <\/font>03-04\u00a0<\/span>\u200b2022. In cooperation with the Bertelsmann Stiftung, the U.S. Embassy Berlin, and the German Federal Foreign Office, HMKW Berlin students had the opportunity to cover the event. The conference, which brought together experts from civil society, technology and politics across the Atlantic, aimed to explore opportunities and challenges for developing better transatlantic relationships.
